Three breweries, one fire.
A smoked red lager built on the Franconian "rotbier" tradition, red beer from the country around Nuremberg, where the smoked-lager craft of nearby Bamberg has been kept alive for centuries. A smoked rotbier is a rare thing to brew, which is half the reason all three of us wanted in.
Ours is built mostly on Australian Voyager malt, including two smoked malts, red gum and mountain ash, for a distinctly Australian campfire character. Ryefield Red Earth hops late in the boil bring a touch of earthy citrus, and a crisp Swiss lager yeast keeps the finish clean. Malty, crisp, and far easier to drink than its smoke suggests.
